Chiropractic care can relieve pain, improve range of motion, and enhance overall health and wellness by restoring proper spinal function.
The holistic support and complementary health care of cancer patients, from the moment of diagnosis, during their treatments and for the rest of their lives, is a very important part of recovery, therapy, improvement of holistic health and recurrence prevention.
Thus, today's article is a short and comprehensive part of our interview together with chiropractor Maria Laoudikou , who talked to us about the support that chiropractic care can offer to a cancer patient.
Let's see what she answered on our top questions.
What exactly is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is an independent health science concerned about the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neuro-musculoskeletal disorders , as well as the effects of these disorders on general health and well-being. It is a holistic approach that focuses on correcting spinal dysfunctions, thereby allowing the nervous system to function at its best.
How can chiropractic care support those affected by cancer?
Chiropractic treatments can help a cancer patient just as they can help someone without cancer. Chiropractic care can relieve pain, improve range of motion, and enhance overall health and wellness by restoring proper spinal function . The last thing a cancer patient wants to worry about is a back or a neck pain. They want to be able to take care of themselves and have an improved quality of life.
Along which other therapeutic methods can it be used, for the holistic support of cancer patients?
Physiotherapy, acupuncture, healthy diet . Cancer rates are unfortunately so high that a "network" of therapists and health professionals need to finally be created to offer the cancer patient a holistic solution, regardless of the individual prognosis.
Are there cases of cancer patients who cannot be treated by a chiropractor?
Depending on the chiropractor. Usually if the patients are able to come to our clinic, it is very likely that we will be able to help them. Don't forget that not everyone uses the same techniques. Depending on the cancer and the issue the patient wants to "resolve", a plan is made for them.
What does a therapeutic chiropractic program look like and which daily habits can support it?
There is no “one size fits all”. We adapt the program according to their treatments and always in consultation with their medical team. As most of us now know, therapy, whatever therapy it might be, is a team effort . The patient needs to participate not only in the decision making process, but also in the creation of the whole program.
In the beginning, if their schedule allows, we do 2-3 sessions a week, and after 2-3 weeks we reduce them to 1. Always depending on the progress and the requirements. Proper nutrition and exercise , even for 10 minutes, are essential. But above all, it is important for the cancer patient to feel comfortable, to have a good, or as good as possible, quality of life.
